Aah London! One of the great cities of the world deserves at least one visit in a lifetime! This is the center of the universe (ish) and has more attractions per square mile
than any other city. Whether it's the Tower of London, London Bridge, a typical English pub or just a stroll through the historic streets and squares, a visit to London is
busy and inspiring. Getting there is easy, London attracts millions of visitors every year - the hardest job
you'll have is deciding which are the 5 best things to see in London you'll explore!
The West End is the theater and drinking district. You can choose to take in a play or
show, eat in one of the hundreds of restaurants or find a pub to hole up in. The longest running play in the world is on at the
St Martin's Theatre in Cambridge Circus. The Mousetrap has been playing for 60 years, for more
than 24,000 performances. That many people can't be wrong. You'd be shot for forgetting your lines I assume.
There's a great selection of
cheap hotels in London on cheaprooms.com which will make you enjoy
your stay even more enjoyable. London hotels in the West End, around Knightsbridge and Mayfair and Hyde Park can be expensive, but there are plenty of London hotels outside those
areas.
If you want to see the number one tourist attraction in London, head to the Tower of London. It's
on the north bank of the Thames in central London and if you approach from the river side you'll see the infamous Traitors Gate, through which Queen Anne Boleyn, Sir Thomas More,
Queen Catherine Howard made their entrance. The Tower today is more famous for housing the Crown Jewels and symbols of royalty such as the crown, sceptre, and sword.
Tower Bridge crosses the Thames close to the Tower of London and is a remarkably intact suspension bridge dating from 1894.
It's an iconic representation of London and you can watch it raise and lower its span, walk across the bridge and take in an exhibition.
Is there a more famous palace than
Buckingham Palace? Surely not! This grand monument to pomp, pageantry and royal splendour is at the end of the Mall, the
ceremonial road way leading to the palace. Buck Palace is only a recent addition to the list of great castles of the world having been completed in 1854, If you're one of the lucky
50,000 people who get invited to garden parties, receptions and banquets each year you'll get a close up view of the palace, otherwise you'll just have to settle for one of the 60 days
per year the palace is open to the public for tours. Did you know - the palace costs about $20m a year to maintain? That's an awful lot of gutters to unclog.
Time for a spot
of shopping? Good, Harrods beckons. Perhaps the most famous department store in the world, Harrods has a reputation for being
expensive, but that's not entirely true. It's worth a stroll through the hallowed doors if only to browse the food hall and shop for a few essentials in the grocery department. There's
nothing like a lunch of oysters followed by a selection of goodies from the truffles tray.
Best restaurant in town? That's a terribly hard question, but, if you're after some
good old-fashioned English cooking, we suggest you head to Simpson's in the Strand. The place is an institution and has been serving its
traditional roast for some 150 years. Be-suited waiters carve your meal off the bone at the table and you pile on the
roast potatoes, vegies and sauces. It's an extraordinary throw back in time, and the meal isn't half bad! Don't tell your doctor, bring an appetite and get ready for a grand night out!
(It's very posh too!)
The west coast is a haven for sun seekers and as the weather cools, there's no better place to catch a few rays, soak up some shopping and see a few sights. San Diego is the
8th largest city in the US and it shows - from the wonderful activities, restaurants and hotels available to world-class places like the
San Diego Zoo , SeaWorld and locations
like San Diego Beach.
San Diego California is warm and welcoming. The restaurants cover every budget and there is plenty to see and do. Getting there is easy and
staying is even simpler. There are plenty of cheap hotel rooms in San Diego at
Cheap Rooms. You'll find all the hotels in San Diego that count and at great prices,
so cheap rooms in San Diego are easy to find.
If you're here for some beaching, Mission Beach is your must see and a real San Diego beach! It's close to the city
proper and you can enjoy the waves, chill on the sand with a coffee or go strolling along the boardwalk. There are paces to eat and plenty of opportunities for a bit of people
watching.
Sometime history is a worthy thing to do... but a little dull. Not so at Old Town San Diego .
It's near downtown and recreates 'old' San Diego and recreates the Mexican and early American period of the mid-1800s. The walk-through is free as are many of the exhibits and sites.
Come down in the early evening and finish your stroll at one of the many restaurants.
Speaking of restaurants, San Diego is known for its seafood, and what better way to
celebrate all the fresh, sea air than a visit to a pretty good seafood restaurant? The one to visit is The Oceanaire in J Street,
close to the waterfront. You have to try the oysters, they're freshly shucked and the tip is to have them raw, no sauce, no cooked toppings.
The San Diego Zoo is a world-class
facility. Informative as well as spectacular, it's a must see on your San Diego trip. The facility caters for tourists and for the animals - with ground-breaking research and breeding and
care programs undertaken by the staff. This is a big, rambling place so pack your comfortable shoes and take plenty of snacks and water. The tigers, elephants and polar bear exhibits are
worth catching and don't forget to learn a little about the rare animal breeding programs.
If you have limited time in San Diego, your must see is the
USS Midway museum. Set on a real-life aircraft carrier, this naval history museum is something else. The size alone is impressive
but the interactive displays , the artefacts and the informative tours are excellent. There are real jet fighters, real 'as it was' tours below decks and informative guides - many of
whom are ex-servicemen.
If you're anywhere near Miami, Orlando or
Tampa, then a must see is the Florida Keys. Why? Because the Florida
Keys vacations are the ones that will stay with you for a lifetime!
This beautiful chain of coral keys just south of the Florida mainland fans out into the gulf with the
Atlantic on one side and the warm gulf waters on the other.
It's a diver's paradise, a sun-lover's nirvana and a vacation dreamland. Florida Keys Hotels are plentiful so
there's plenty to see and plenty of room to stay. A Florida Keys vacation is a standout for most people and the perfect antidote to a cold, northern winter.
And of course,
there are plenty of cheap hotels in the Florida Keys at Cheap Rooms.
If you're
driving, the adventure begins with the overseas highway. It goes for miles and if you've managed to hire a car with the top down, the joy is unsurpassed! First stop might be Florida Key
West and there's plenty to occupy you in this little village - Duval Street is the main drag and this is where you'll find the bars, restaurants and boutiques. The famous
Sloppy Joe's is here (bring your Hemingway-like great uncle), as is Rick's Cafe and the equally hot Flying Monkey's Bar. If you're
up for it, the 'Duval Crawl' takes in all the main pubs and you can regret at leisure on the beach the next day.
After you're done bar-hopping, take in a little nature at the
Turtle Hospital in Marathon. You can see all the turtles, hear how they're rescued and cared for and enjoy the tidal pool out
the back. It's educational and fun and everyone will enjoy the tour.
Did you know there was a Winter
White House? Harry S Truman enjoyed winters at the cottage on Key West and today you can tour the place, see historical documents and artefacts. It's a hop and a skip from Mallory
Square so is very convenient if you're in Key West.
If you're dining out in Key West, some options include the Cuban Coffee Queen at 284 Margaret which serves up great coffee
and perfect sandwiches from the simplest of venues - a little white shack ! If you want to go a little more upmarket, try the Columbian Grace Restaurant at 223 Petronia. It's a fusion
American/Columbian/South American style place with slow service and delightful sangria!
